Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Nyesom Wike, on Saturday led a delegation of his political allies—including members of the former G5 Governors—to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The high-profile meeting is being widely viewed as part of ongoing political consultations and possible realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Also in attendance were former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, as well as two members of the defunct G5 group—former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
Recall that in the build-up to the 2023 elections, the G5 Governors, under Wike’s leadership, openly opposed the PDP presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, and instead backed Tinubu, then the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following Tinubu’s election victory, Wike—still a member of the PDP—was appointed as FCT Minister in August 2023, further fuelling speculation about deepening ties between him and the APC-led administration.
Saturday’s closed-door meeting adds to growing indications of political repositioning, with key opposition figures seemingly aligning with the presidency in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
