Fresh details have emerged on why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to officially recognise the interim National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President, Senator David Mark.
Findings showed that former National Chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, in a letter dated July 29, 2025, informed INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of resolutions taken at the ADC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held the same day.
The NEC, in that meeting, resolved to exercise the powers of the National Convention pending when the next convention would be held. It also announced changes in the party’s leadership and forwarded the names of 44 new national officers to INEC, including David Mark as National Chairman, Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and Dr Mani Ibrahim as National Treasurer.
However, checks on the INEC website still list Ralph Nwosu, Alhaji Sai’d Baba Abdullahi, and Mr Cavin Alagoa as National Chairman, National Secretary, and National Treasurer, respectively, with Mrs Ifeyinwa Ntima as National Financial Secretary.
An INEC source, who confirmed receipt of the letter from Nwosu and Abdullahi, explained that the commission has not recognised the new leadership because the letter was not properly written.
“The letter only listed the names of 44 new national officers without their signatures. We need specimens of their signatures before we can act,” the source said.
The official dismissed suggestions that INEC was unwilling to recognise the David Mark-led leadership because of the party’s internal crisis.
“No, we have nothing against the process. In fact, we monitored the meeting where those resolutions were adopted,” the source added.
