Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Muyiwa Ademola, has shared the emotional and professional reasons behind the remake of his 2004 award-winning film, Ori, now titled Ori: The Rebirth.
In an interview on TVC News, Ademola said the remake was inspired by the lasting impact of the original film and years of consistent requests from fans.
“Ori was that one film that changed everything for me. It took me out of Nigeria for the first time and won several awards, including AMAA for Best Indigenous Movie,” he said.
He explained that after considering other formats like stage plays and books, he settled on a modern remake to keep the legacy alive and connect with today’s audience.
According to him, the new project was self-funded, with support from family and friends. He revealed that even his household had to cut down on spending to bring the film to life.
“I didn’t want anyone to call me out if it didn’t work. So I took the risk, borrowed money, and poured everything I had into it,” he said.
The film, which includes a realistic plane crash scene built from scratch, features an all-star cast including Sola Sobowale, Lateef Adedimeji, Omowunmi Dada, Odunlade Adekola, and Toyin Abraham.
Ademola said Ori: The Rebirth is not just a movie, but a legacy that he hopes will outlive him.
