Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has opened up about her decision to marry her husband and fellow actor, Olu Jacobs, despite a 20-year age difference between them.
The 62-year-old screen legend, who tied the knot with Jacobs in 1985, shared her story in a recent interview, revealing that love was the main reason she went ahead with the marriage, even though her father initially objected to the union.
“I was in love with him. As simple as that. And he was such a very gorgeous person,” she said.
Silva recalled that during a visit to Nigeria in 1984 with Olu Jacobs, one of her sisters immediately saw the connection between them and encouraged her to take him home to meet their father.
“At first, my dad had issues with the fact that he [Olu Jacobs] was much older, but my mum supported us. She reminded him that her own parents had a similar age gap, so she saw no reason to object,” she added.
The celebrated couple, known for their enduring love and partnership, have two children together. Olu Jacobs, now 82, remains one of Nollywood’s most respected figures, while Joke Silva continues to be a prominent voice in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
