The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing security challenges in the country.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, Oluyede assured Nigerians of his resolve to make significant progress in tackling insecurity.
“I am here to reassure Mr. President that I will do my best to improve security in Nigeria,” he said. “I intend to explore new strategies to achieve better results, and I sought the President’s support, which he has always provided.”
Oluyede highlighted his recent visits to military formations in the Northwest and Northeast regions, where he engaged with officers and troops to emphasize the urgency of ending insecurity.
“I spoke with my officers and soldiers, stressing the need for improved outcomes. I expect noticeable progress in the fight against insecurity,” he added.
Addressing the activities of the Lakurawa terrorist group, Oluyede noted that enhanced collaboration with neighboring Niger Republic would soon lead to the group’s elimination.
“We are intensifying our operations on the Nigerian side. However, these terrorists often flee across the border to Niger. With the growing cooperation from Niger Republic, Lakurawa will soon be a thing of the past,” he assured.
The Army Chief reiterated his determination to adopt innovative approaches to combat insecurity and ensure the safety of all Nigerians.
