The United States government has cautioned Nigerian travelers against the consequences of overstaying their visas, stating that violators risk being permanently barred from re-entering the country.
This warning was issued by the US Mission in Nigeria through its official X handle on Monday.
According to US immigration authorities, consular officers have full access to an individual’s immigration records, making it difficult to evade penalties for previous violations.
The statement stressed that travelers must comply with visa conditions, as ignorance of the rules will not be considered a valid excuse.
The post read: “If you overstay your US visa, you could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States. Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake’ – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly.”
