US Mission Orders Nigerian Visa Applicants to Disclose Social Media Handles

The Mission announced the directive in a post on its official X account on Monday, saying the measure was in line with efforts of the U.S. Department of State to strengthen national security through improved screening.

According to the Mission, applicants must submit a complete record of their social media profiles on the DS-160 visa application form.

It further warned that failure to provide the information could result in visa denial or render applicants ineligible for future U.S. visas.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used in the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Mission stated.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before signing and submitting. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” it added.
