
In a harrowing incident that has sparked outrage across the country, a group of 16 northern hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah celebration were lynched in Uromi, Edo State.
The attack, carried out by vigilantes who wrongly accused them of being kidnappers, resulted in the brutal killing of several travelers.
However, in the midst of this tragedy, security operatives were able to intervene and rescue 10 of the hunters.
According to the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, officers swiftly responded to reports of the attack. Upon arrival at the scene, they found a chaotic and gruesome situation where vigilantes had already executed some of the victims.
He said Police acting decisively, they were able to intervene before further killings could occur.
The police spokesman further said the 10 surviving hunters were immediately removed from the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
He further said that their conditions varied, with some suffering severe injuries from machete attacks and beatings.
