The United Kingdom has revised its travel advisory on Kaduna State, upgrading it from the “Red” to the “Amber” category, a move that now allows British citizens to travel freely to the state.
The announcement was made by the Development Director of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Cynthia Rowe, during the signing of a new Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF) with the state government.
Rowe explained that Kaduna had been on the “Red list” since 2022 but was upgraded following improvements in security. She said the reclassification reflects recognition of the state government’s efforts in tackling insecurity and sends a positive message to potential investors.
The KaMAF agreement was signed by Governor Uba Sani on behalf of Kaduna State and Rowe on behalf of the FCDO. The framework aims to consolidate progress in governance, health, education, and agriculture.
Governor Sani highlighted the benefits of the partnership, noting its role in reducing maternal and child mortality, improving access to healthcare, upgrading schools, and strengthening teacher training.
He also disclosed that over 10% of Kaduna’s 2025 budget has been allocated to boost crop and livestock productivity.
The governor further outlined reform initiatives such as the Local Government Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (LFTAS) programme, Issue-Based Projects, and Community Development Charters, designed to deepen citizen engagement and strengthen institutions.
Sani expressed optimism that the new framework would accelerate development and reinforce Kaduna’s reputation as a state committed to resilience, security, and inclusive growth.
