Trudeau steps down as Prime Minister of Canada

Trudeau, who had earlier announced his decision to step down in January, handed over power on Friday. His resignation came amid concerns that his Liberal Party could struggle in the forthcoming elections. However, the party’s standing has since improved, partly due to increasing Canadian opposition to former U.S. President Donald Trump and his policies.

In a farewell message on X, Trudeau expressed gratitude to Canadians for their trust and support, saying:

“Thank you, Canada – for trusting in me, for challenging me, and for granting me the privilege to serve the best country, and the best people, on earth.”

Following his resignation, Mark Carney has been sworn in as Canada’s new Prime Minister. His administration takes over at a time when the country is facing questions about its sovereignty from President Trump and an ongoing trade dispute with the United States.
