In response to the rising cases of drug peddling and substance abuse in Idanre land, the Regent and Ojomu of Idanre, High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, in conjunction with other traditional rulers, has convened an Extraordinary Meeting of the Idanre Traditional Council to address the menace and chart a new course for the community.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 10, 2026 at Ojomu Hall, Owa’s Palace, Odode Idanre, and will commence promptly at 10:00 AM.
Confirming the meeting, HRH Oba Ademehintoye Claudius, the Olu of Onipanu Idanre and Chairman of Olus in Idanre Local Government Area, stated that the Council appreciates the Regent’s proactive leadership in tackling drug-related crimes in the town.
Oba Claudius warned that attendance at the meeting is mandatory for all traditional rulers in Idanre LGA.
“The Council has resolved that any member who fails to attend this extraordinary meeting without a genuine reason will be regarded as an enemy of Idanre land, especially of our youths who are the primary victims of this menace. Such persons will face appropriate disciplinary measures within the Council,” the monarch said.
It will be recalled that since assuming the regency in *May 2026*, High Chief Akinboni has waged a sustained campaign against drug peddlers and consumers in Idanre.
The campaign reached a significant milestone on Thursday, August 6, 2026, when, acting on credible intelligence, the Regent mobilized community members to raid known drug dens within the town.
Suspects apprehended during the operation were handed over to the *Nigeria Police Force* on the same day. Reliable sources indicate that the suspects will be arraigned in court in due course.
The Traditional Council reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating drug abuse and urged parents, community leaders, and security agencies to support ongoing efforts to safeguard the future of Idanre youths.
The Council noted that drug abuse poses a direct threat to the peace, progress, and development of Idanre land, and pledged zero tolerance for all forms of peddling and consumption.
