Afrobeats powerhouse Tiwa Savage has dismissed long-standing claims that she undermines or sabotages other female artists in the Nigerian music industry.
Speaking during an appearance on the “Off Air” podcast, the award-winning singer challenged her critics to present evidence or name any female artist whose career she has allegedly obstructed.
“If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention names,” Tiwa said. “Maybe the promoters are lying and using me. Maybe they just don’t want to book three or four girls, so they claim I’m the one blocking others.”
The singer suggested that concert organisers might be exploiting her name as a cover to justify not featuring multiple female performers at major events.
Her remarks come amid renewed conversations about gender dynamics in Afrobeats, where female artists often speak out about being underrepresented or sidelined compared to their male counterparts.
Tiwa, often dubbed the “Queen of Afrobeats,” also noted in an earlier interview that despite her global recognition and years of consistency, she sometimes feels underappreciated within the Nigerian music space.
With over a decade of hit singles, international collaborations, and sold-out shows across continents, the singer remains one of the most influential figures in shaping the modern Afrobeats sound and paving the way for younger women in the industry.
