In a surprise move, President Bola Tinubu ordered the reinstatement of key executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), effectively reversing recent management changes at Africa’s largest television network.
The President directed the immediate return of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General of NTA. Dembos, first appointed in October 2023, had stepped aside following a reshuffle but will now resume office to complete his three-year tenure.
Also reinstated is Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, who had been replaced in the earlier appointments. Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, will now serve out his tenure until 2027.
The reversal nullifies the announcement of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the President’s directive ensures both officials complete their statutory terms.
The decision has stirred reactions within the broadcasting industry, with observers raising questions about the circumstances behind the sudden reshuffle and its cancellation.
