Tinubu orders military, intelligence chiefs to intensify operations nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the nation’s security and intelligence chiefs to deepen coordination and sharpen operational tactics in the ongoing campaign against terrorism, banditry and other emerging threats.

During a security meeting held at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, the President tasked the service chiefs with delivering faster, more efficient results across all frontline operations. He also emphasised the need for tighter synergy among the various security agencies.

The meeting was part of renewed government efforts to stabilise conflict-prone regions and ensure a peaceful festive period for Nigerians.

On the same day, the President nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence.
Musa’s nomination follows Monday’s resignation of Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, who stepped down for health-related reasons. The Senate has fixed today for Musa’s ministerial screening.

Those at the high-level security parley included National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Wahidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke.

Others present were Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Lt.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiadeye; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

Speaking after the meeting, CDS Gen. Oluyede said the discussions were “very engaging,” adding that Nigerians should expect improved security outcomes in the coming weeks as agencies intensify operations ahead of the festive season.

The briefing is the latest in the series of strategic consultations undertaken by President Tinubu since he declared a national security emergency to confront rising threats across the country.
