President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Abdullahi Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The nomination was announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
The President also nominated two other individuals as commissioners of the Commission. They are Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, who is to serve as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Mr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
All three nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
To avoid a leadership vacuum at the regulatory agency, the President directed that Dr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending his screening and confirmation by the National Assembly, as required by law.
Dr. Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator. He holds a doctorate degree in Strategic Management, among other academic qualifications.
President Tinubu urged the nominees to deploy their knowledge and expertise in managing the affairs of NERC, in line with the administration’s renewed focus on improving Nigeria’s power sector.
