President Bola Tinubu has approved the relocation of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) from the Federal Ministry of Works to the Presidency.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Thursday and presided over by the President.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the move is aimed at strengthening coordination in geospatial data management and ensuring closer oversight of national mapping and land administration efforts.
Although the minister did not give detailed reasons for the change, the development aligns with the administration’s broader reform agenda and its increasing reliance on geospatial intelligence for national planning, infrastructure development, and security purposes.
OSGoF serves as the country’s primary mapping authority, providing accurate geospatial information and services to support policy-making and developmental initiatives.
