President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Ndidi’s appointment follows the conclusion of Haliru Nababa’s tenure as the service’s head.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board, confirmed that Ndidi’s appointment takes effect from December 15, 2024.
“The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has graciously approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service following the expiration of the tenure of Haliru Nababa,” the statement read.
Profile of the New Acting CG
Nwakuche Ndidi, born on November 26, 1966, is from Oguta in Imo State. Prior to his appointment, he served as Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate. He is a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the national honor of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ndidi’s ability to lead the service effectively, urging him to leverage his experience in his new role.
Outgoing CG Haliru Nababa
Haliru Nababa, the outgoing Controller-General, was appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. During his tenure, Nababa headed several custodial formations, including the Wurno Satellite Custodial Centre in Sokoto State, Nguru Custodial Centre in Yobe State, Mubi Custodial Centre in Adamawa State, and Sokoto Central Custodial Centre in Sokoto State between 2016 and 2019.
Ndidi is expected to continue efforts to reform and modernize the Nigerian Correctional Service while addressing critical challenges within the system.
