The Vision Of Ekiti City Polytechnic Is To Become A Leading Training Institution in Nigeria —- Rector

The Rector of EKITI CITY POLYTECHNIC, Ekiti State, in this special interview with the pinpointnews speaks on the coming on board of the Polytechnic and the plans to make the Institution one of the best Polytechnic in Ekiti State. Excerpts

Please briefly introduce yourself sir.                          

My name is James Bamisaye Ajayi.  I am The Rector of EKITI CITY POLYTECHNIC, Omuo-oke Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Sir, education has been described in many quarters as the road to the development of an individual and the society, why did you venture into this?        

The aim of the Polytechnic is to equip male and female with the requisite knowledge and skills for technology development and self reliance. 

When did the institution come on stream?  

Ekiti City Polytechnic was approved by Federal Government of Nigeria and accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in April 2023. 

What are the vision and mission of the institution?

The vision of Ekiti City Polytechnic is to become a leading training Institution in Nigeria providing technical education aimed at producing quality graduates, who will not be only self employed but major employers of labour. Admission of students into all the courses is ongoing.

What are some of the courses run in the school, and how many of them have been accredited by the National Board For Technical Education (NBTE)?  

Courses available are: Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Entrepreneurship Course for all Students.

What are the factors that distinguish your Polytechnic from other Polytechnics in Nigeria? 

The factors that distinguish Ekiti City Polytechnic from other Polytechnics in Nigeria include:

Qualitative theoretical and practical training of all students in Entrepreneurship. Also  award of certificate in Entrepreneurship to all students.

What has been the  relationship between the school and the “watchdog” of technical education, that’s, NBTE?     

The working relationship between Ekiti City Polytechnic and National Board for Technical Education ( NBTE) is very cordial. The relationship is progressive The school’s operation got the approvals of both the federal and state governments. 

Are there plans to introduce new courses?      

New courses will be introduced in accordance with NBTE policy as and when due.

On the final lap sir, what type of educational policies do you advocate to ensure qualitative and sustainable educational system in Nigeria?

In my opinion,  “Education should be based on the integration of individual into sound and effective citizen. Also, be based on the provision of equal educational opportunity for all citizens at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels'” Thank you.
