In a historic moment for Fuji music, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Saheed Osupa shared the stage for the first time in years, setting aside their long-standing rivalry to perform a duet.
The memorable event took place during Pasuma’s 40th anniversary celebration in the music industry, held at the Sheraton Balmoral Hall, Ikeja, Lagos.
The night was a reunion of Fuji legends, with other prominent artists such as Sule Alao Malaika, Sefiu Alao, Rasheed Ayinde Merenge, Remi Aluko, Tope Nautical, and Tiri Leather joining the collaboration session.
However, notable Ibadan-based Fuji singer Taiye Currency was conspicuously absent from the star-studded gathering.
Pasuma and Osupa’s rivalry, which spanned decades, divided the Fuji music community, with fans often clashing both online and offline. Despite being childhood friends, their relationship soured as their careers flourished, leading to lyrical exchanges in their songs and fierce competition for dominance in the Fuji music scene. Promoters and marketers acknowledged that their rivalry significantly boosted record sales and event attendance over the years.
This recent performance marks a new chapter for the genre, as fans and stakeholders alike celebrate the duo’s reconciliation. Many view this development as a step towards fostering unity among Fuji musicians and their fanbase, promoting peace within the community.
While the absence of Taiye Currency sparked curiosity, the event’s overall atmosphere highlighted a renewed spirit of camaraderie, with attendees expressing hope for more collaborative efforts among Fuji artists in the future.
