
The lawmaker representing Ado Constituency 1 in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Ayodeji Adegbite has called on the members of the Seventh Assembly to take the bull by the horns through a regular statewide sensitization and campaign against anti- social behavior among the Children and the youths in the state.
The Lawmaker stated this while moving a motion on the need to revitilise and promote the concept of Omoluabi’s among the Children and the youths in the state, through a statewide sensitization and campaign program.
Seconding the motion, the lawmaker representing Oye Constituency 1, Hon Temitope Longe explained that the motion seeking to promote the aged-long Yoruba values system of Omoluabi’s, a concept that embodies integrity, honesty, hard work, humility, discipline, communal responsibility, respect for elders and those in position of authorities.
According to the mover of the motion, the Chairman House Committee on Public petition, Hon Adegbite, said the Omoluabi ethos, values and virtues which has long defined the characters of a typical Ekiti person have been eroded, as a result of technology advancement, over adoption of western culture, civilization and inordinate desire for wealth by the youths.
However, the Lawmaker highlighted the negative effects of youthful exuberant in our society, ranging from Cybercrime, Internet fraud, Yahoo Yahoo, Cultism, Drug abuse, Money ritual among others and called on the Ministry of Education, Information and Value Orientation to embark on sensitization and enlightenment campaign on how to restore and promote the Omoluabi values in Ekiti State.
Hon Adegbite equally admonished his colleagues in Assembly to rise against the menace by safeguarding the cultural values and protect the future of the youths through the revitalization of moral compass in our society and guiding the next generation towards the paths of integrity, excellence and responsible citizenship.
