In a move seen as a consolidation of power, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has ousted the speaker and deputy speaker of the national transitional parliament, citing allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

President Salva Kiir has appointed new leaders, Joseph Ngere Paciko and Abuk Payiti Ayik, as speaker and deputy speaker, respectively.
The move comes as the SPLM seeks to solidify its control over the legislature, amid a prolonged transition period following the 2018 peace deal.
Critics argue the shake-up is a power play, while supporters claim it’s a necessary step to ensure accountability and effective governance.
