
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that seven inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, following a heavy downpour that damaged parts of the facility.
According to a statement released on Tuesday night by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025.
The Controller-General of Corrections, Mr. Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the security breach.
The NCoS assured the public that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with other security agencies and local community leaders to track down and return the fleeing inmates to custody.
Members of the public have been urged to assist with useful information that could lead to the rearrest of the escapees.
