Senate to Screen INEC Chairman Nominee Thursday

According to a notice issued by Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary, Research and Information, the screening will take place at the Senate Chamber, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

President Tinubu had nominated Amupitan after his appointment received unanimous endorsement from the National Council of State, following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as INEC chairman on October 7, 2025.

A renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Professor of Law, Amupitan currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos, Plateau State. He is celebrated in legal and academic circles for his scholarship in constitutional law, governance, and judicial reforms.

Born in Kogi State, Amupitan obtained his law degree from the University of Jos and was called to the Nigerian Bar after completing his training at the Nigerian Law School.

If confirmed, he will become Nigeria’s 13th INEC chairman, succeeding Yakubu, whose tenure formally ended after eight years of service.
