SANWO-OLU: 2025 Council Elections To Affirm Lagos’ Commitment To LG Autonomy

Speaking during the 2025 Annual Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday at Tafawa Balewa Square, the governor reflected on the state’s progress and outlined key priorities for the year ahead. Themed Harvest of Thanksgiving, the event provided an opportunity for reflection and gratitude for the achievements of 2024 while fostering optimism for the future.

In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the challenges and successes of the past year, attributing the state’s advancements to collective efforts and faith.

“This year, 2025, our local government elections will further strengthen the delivery of good governance at the grassroots and affirm our commitment to local government autonomy, a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a truly federal Nigeria,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu commended the economic reforms initiated by President Tinubu, acknowledging the initial difficulties faced by citizens but emphasizing the long-term benefits. He noted improvements in public revenues, macroeconomic stability, and increasing investments across key sectors.

Looking to the future, the governor reiterated his administration’s focus on transformative projects, including the new international airport, expansion of the municipal rail system, and the implementation of the Lagos State Electricity Law of 2024.

“This year, alongside our efforts in education, healthcare, security, environmental protection, wealth creation, and social investment, we will prioritize mobilizing financing for ambitious projects such as the new international airport, the expansion of our rail network, and the construction of a food logistics hub,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu also stressed the importance of the state’s electricity reform efforts. “The Lagos State Electricity Law of 2024 is geared toward unbundling the electricity value chain and developing a sustainable market that will provide reliable and affordable power to homes, offices, and industries,” he added.

The governor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for federal support on critical projects and acknowledged the contributions of state officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and residents to the state’s development.

The service concluded with prayers for continued peace, prosperity, and progress in Lagos.
