The Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that the ongoing political crisis in the State will only strengthen the people rather than break them.
The suspended governor while speaking at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitr visit from Muslim leaders representing 20 Islamic groups, reassured his supporters that justice would prevail. He warned against those attempting to plunge the state into violence, vowing to resist any effort to undermine the people’s welfare.
“This is a season of love, sharing, and sacrifice,” he said. “You have come to share in our pain, and I know that everything happening now is leading us toward a greater purpose. No matter what, we will emerge stronger.”
According to reports, Fubara acknowledged the weight of the political turmoil but suggested that supernatural forces might be influencing events beyond human understanding. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice and fairness, stating that he would rather endure hardship than compromise his principles.
Using a biblical analogy, he urged patience, saying: “If God could wait for even the snail to enter Noah’s Ark, then patience remains a virtue in our struggle.”
Fubara also issued a stern warning against those plotting to destabilize Rivers State, vowing that his government would not allow political saboteurs to disrupt the peace.
“They aim to create instability and cripple livelihoods, but we will not let that happen,” he declared. “We will continue to respect constituted authority and ensure Rivers State remains a model of peace and governance in Nigeria.”
Muslim leader, Nasir Uhor, speaking on behalf of the delegation, pledged unwavering support for Fubara and commended his inclusive leadership. He encouraged the governor to remain steadfast, citing Islamic teachings that emphasize patience as a path to divine reward.
Uhor also called on President Bola Tinubu to review the emergency rule in Rivers State and fully restore Fubara’s authority, stressing that despite the crisis, the governor has continued to lead effectively.
