As tension begins to flare over the approaching October 27, 2025 All Progressives Congress Governorship primary in Ekiti State, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Bamisile, has saluted Governor Biodun Oyebanji over promise to shun practice that is antithetical to democratic norms.
Bamisile, who is representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, said Governor Oyebanji’s assurance not to muzzle nor oppressed opposition, lent credence to the fact that the primary will be crisis-free, contrary to the gory pictures being portrayed by analysts.
The former speaker gave the commendation in a statement released through his a media office in Abuja, on Thursday.
The lawmaker congratulated the governor on the massive and electrifying support he garnered from the party leaders and members, while submitting his nomination form.
Governor Oyebanji on Wednesday, submitted his governorship nomination form at the APC headquarters in Abuja, amid grandiose ceremony attended by party bigwigs and high profile figures.
Bamisile said he was personally enthralled by the statement made by the governor that he won’t deploy the state machinery to oppress other contestants, describing this as a sign of leadership and part of the efforts to build enduring democracy for Nigerians .
The Federal Lawmaker added that Governor Oyebanji, had through the promise shamed those get branded as naysayers and prophets of doom, who had predicted that the primary will be pulsating, violent and bloody .
“Let me again congratulate our massively loved Governor, Biodun Oyebanji for exhibiting statesmanship and proven to be a thoroughbred democrat, by his pledge not to oppress his opponents in the primary.
“To demonstrate his commitment and avowed stand for the actualisation of this pledge, he even begged the party leaders under the leadership of Prof Nentawe Yilwatda to conduct free and fair primary.
“He urged them to create a level playing filed for all contestants.
“Those expecting bloodshed and crisis will be shamed by this action and his opponents must key into the agenda of ensuring that Ekiti is not turned into a killing field just because of governorship primary”.
Bamisile congratulated Governor Oyebanji on the success recorded by the qualities of political gladiators that accompanied him to Abuja, saying this further reinforced his spirit of inclusivity and good prognosis of winning in the primary.
