The Nigeria Police Force has explained the reasons behind the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother during the “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest held in Abuja on Monday.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the duo were arrested after insisting on entering restricted areas during the demonstration.
Hundeyin made the clarification while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday evening.
He disclosed that a total of eight people, including Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, were arrested around the Transcorp area of the Federal Capital Territory.
“We arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and his lawyer because they insisted on gaining access to restricted areas. Six others were also arrested for the same reason,” he said.
According to Hundeyin, all the suspects are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged to court after investigation.
“As we stated earlier, anyone who violates the court order will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted. Once we conclude the investigation, which should be within 24 hours, they will be arraigned in court,” he added.
The police had earlier warned against any protest that could breach public peace or contravene existing court orders relating to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
