Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested a suspected cult leader, Akinwale Tomiwa, who had earlier been declared wanted for alleged involvement in cult-related activities in Owo Local Government Area.
Police authorities said the suspect was apprehended in Akure by officers attached to the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad after receiving credible intelligence about his whereabouts.
Investigations indicate that Tomiwa, popularly known as “Bella,” is believed to be the leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating around Rufus Giwa Polytechnic.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, said preliminary findings connected the suspect to the killing of one Ojo Peter on Dec. 12, 2025 in Owo.
The police further disclosed that intelligence reports also linked Tomiwa to a recent incident publicised on a cult-related social media platform known as Naija Confra.
According to the statement, the suspect was allegedly featured on the platform for participating in an attack on individuals believed to be members of the Aiye Confraternity along Fasawe Street in Owo.
Security operatives also carried out a search after the arrest and reportedly recovered several items suspected to be criminal charms believed to be used during cult activities.
The police confirmed that Tomiwa has been charged to court on a six-count charge bordering on murder and other related offences.
Authorities also noted that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected syndicate connected with the case.
The command reaffirmed its determination to clamp down on cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
Police therefore urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
The command assured the public that it remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.
