Police Arrest 10 Over Armed Robbery Attack on Ondo Community

The attack, which occurred on Thursday night, reportedly left several residents injured, while valuables were carted away at gunpoint.

It was gathered that the hoodlums also invaded the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Adinlewa John, who narrowly escaped the assault.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.

He said, “The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with a violent attack on the Igoba community at about 11:30 p.m.

“On that day, a group of hoodlums, armed with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, invaded the community with the intent to wreak havoc. In the course of their operation, one Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo was attacked, injured, and dispossessed of her belongings.

“The assailants further advanced to the palace of His Royal Highness, Oba Adinlewa John, where they attempted to assassinate the monarch. Fortunately, the royal father narrowly escaped the life-threatening assault.”

Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, immediately deployed tactical teams led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

He added that the suspects had confessed to their roles in the attack and would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Items recovered from them included two locally made pistols, a single-barrel gun, several rounds of live ammunition, charms, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons used during the operation.
