A Professor of Adult Education, in Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), Professor Matthew Borode, has tasked Education Policymakers to place premium on prison Education as a means of alleviating low-self esteem, higher dependency ratio and crime rate.
Professor Borode stated this on Tuesday while delivering his lecture at the 76th Inaugural Lecture of the Institution themed: “Investment in Adult and Non-formal Education: Options for Policy Markers”.

He ascertained that other forms of Adult and non-formal Education programmes like prison Education, extension, distance learning, on-the-job training should be widely considered in order to educate everyone regardless of the group they belong to.
He also noted that Adult Education contributes to engendering a healthy, equitable, gender-aware and democratic environment.
While calling on the Government and relevant stakeholders to invest in adult and non-formal Education, the Professor noted that Adult Education is a hope for the hopeless as it provides equal opportunities of access to education without any restrictions.

According to him, “Other forms of Adult and non-formal Education programmes like prison Education, extension, distance learning, on-the-job training should be given a proper place by the Education Policymakers.

“The country should invest heavily in Adult literacy because individuals with low levels of literacy are note like to experience poorer employment opportunities and low productivity.
“This will alleviate low-self esteem, higher dependency ratio and higher levels of crime.

“This is because Adult Education is hope for the hopeless and it provides equal opportunities of access to education without any restrictions.” He added
