Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made it clear that he has no intention of joining the ruling party and distanced himself from any involvement in an APC gathering where his name was mentioned.
In a post on X, the former presidential candidate reaffirmed his commitment to issue-based politics, stating that he does not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation.
“I have come across a report circulating on social media regarding an APC gathering where my name was mentioned. Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives,” Obi stated.
He further emphasized that he remains committed to integrity, fairness, and issue-driven politics, insisting that he is neither a member of the APC nor does he have plans to join the party in the future.
Obi also called for political parties to assess aspirants based on their competence, capacity, and compassion, stressing the need for credible leadership in Nigeria.
“As for Valentine Ozigbo, I maintain that he, like every other aspirant, should be evaluated based on these key leadership qualities in his new political party,” he added.
He urged all political stakeholders to ensure free and fair primaries, reject toxic politics, and uphold justice, stressing that only through such measures can Nigeria progress towards true democracy.
