The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Sunday announced that it had shut down operations at the Dangote Refinery plant following the sack of over 800 workers said to be union members.
In an update on the strike action, the union said all oil installations nationwide had been affected. It noted that the refinery plant was 100 per cent shut down, while fertiliser plant train two was also fully shut, with train one operating at 60 per cent capacity.
According to the union, the diesel plant remains in operation, though crude oil and gas supply to the refinery have been disrupted.
The development, however, has not been confirmed by the management of Dangote Refinery.
Dangote Refinery had earlier described PENGASSAN’s directive as economic sabotage, while the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) on Sunday appealed to both parties to embrace dialogue.
The dispute began after the refinery management dismissed more than 800 workers allegedly over their membership of the union.
