
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Folajinmi Oyekunle, has won the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, announced the result at the collation centre in Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.
He declared that Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Adewale Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 8,312 votes.
Other results showed that Mr Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 88 votes, Ms Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) got 40 votes, while Mr Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) recorded 18 votes.
“I, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on the 16th of August, 2024. That Folajinmi Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner of the election,” Oluwadare said.
The victory enables Oyekunle to replace the late lawmaker, Musiliu Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, whose death created the vacancy.
The outcome also marks the PDP’s first reclaiming of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat since 2011.
