PASTOR OSAGIE IZE-IYAMU: The Right Choice For Edo State Future

            By David Adodo

As Edo state prepares for the 2024 gubernatorial election, it is essential to reflect on the various developments that have shaped the state’s trajectory since 1999.

Edo state, once a part of the old Midwestern state and later Bendel state before the creation of Delta state, is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. The state boasts a wealth of minerals, fertile lands for agriculture, industrial potential, and a burgeoning tourism industry. Undoubtedly, Edo, often referred to as the “heartbeat of Nigeria,” possesses all the ingredients to become a prominent state in the nation. Since the Second Republic, when the state was graced by two visionary leaders, the late Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Ali and the late Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, Edo has grappled with leadership challenges.

However, the state has been led by men of honour since 1999 who have made significant contributions to its development.

Notably, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomole distinguished himself as a leader with a fervent desire to propel Edo state to greatness. He aimed to establish a legacy of continuity by endorsing the present governor.

Regrettably, Comrade Oshiomole’s noble intentions were derailed by disloyalty. His chosen successor led the state through unnecessary discord and legal battles. Instead of carrying forward the legacy and programmes of continuity, he adopted an overbearing and confrontational approach. Frequent clashes with party leaders, particularly the acrimonious relationship with his Deputy, adversely affected governance and impeded the state’s anticipated development.

Now, Edo state urgently requires a highly qualified, focused, and morally upright leader to guide its recovery.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the ideal candidate for the job. It is paramount for our leaders and citizens to rally behind this determined individual to steer the state toward new developmental horizons befitting a blessed state like ours.

The people of Edo state cannot afford to repeat the mistake of allowing a disruptive figure to occupy the government house. It is time for a leader like Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to take the reins and lead Edo into a brighter future.
