Oyebanji seeks understanding on state of federal roads in Ekiti …says Ado-Ikere-Akure road nearing completion

Governor Oyebanji made this known during an event marking the 40th anniversary of Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello as the Chief Imam of Ado Ekiti. His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode.

While acknowledging the poor condition of some federal roads, the governor said his administration had also stepped in to rehabilitate one of the affected roads to ease the burden on residents and commuters.

He explained that efforts are in top gear to begin work on two other major road projects, while the Ado–Ikere–Akure Road is already nearing completion.

“I want to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to Ekiti State. The approval and award of contracts for three federal roads in our state is a clear sign of his commitment,” Oyebanji said.

The governor urged residents to remain patient and understanding as both the federal and state governments work to improve infrastructure across the state. He also restated his administration’s resolve to continue investing in road and power infrastructure as a way of boosting the state’s economy.

Speaking on the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport, Oyebanji revealed that the facility is awaiting final approval for commercial operations, noting that a six-month non-scheduled flight approval was earlier granted in December 2024.

According to him, the airport is a product of collective decision-making by Ekiti leaders aimed at opening the state to local and international investment opportunities.

The governor also used the opportunity to celebrate Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello for his four decades of service as Chief Imam of Ado Ekiti. He described him as a devoted spiritual leader who has contributed immensely to the growth and unity of the state.

“I congratulate you, Baba, for your dedication to the service of God and humanity. You have been a good ambassador of Ekiti and a symbol of peace. May Almighty Allah continue to strengthen you and reward your efforts,” he said.

Governor Oyebanji also appreciated the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman in Ekiti, Rev Emmanuel Aribasoye, for gracing the occasion and promoting peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the state.

He commended the harmonious relationship among religious bodies in Ekiti, stressing that unity among the people remains key to the state’s development.
