Former Commissioner for Works in Ekiti State and State Secretary, People’s Democratic Party, Ogun Funmilayo Theresa (OFT), has declared that the huge burden of godfarthersim and misplaced priority have prevented Governor Biodun Oyebanji from delivering good governance to the people of the state.
Funmi Ogun declared that Governor Oyebanji received the highest federal allocation in history, but regretted that nothing was on ground to justify the quantum of money that had accrued to the state under him.
The PDP Scribe, also knocked Governor Oyebanji for pandering to the whims and caprices of the godfathers, saying this has been distracting him from real governance and robbing the people of the deserved dividends of democracy.
The former Commissioner pledged that she will contest the 2026 governorship poll and rescue Ekiti from the current socio economic and political crisis despite all odds.
Funmi Ogun gave the accusations in a statement signed by her Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oladimeji Atenibiaje and made available to journalists on Thursday.
Fuming over the poor condition of Ekiti people under Governor Oyebanji, Funmi Ogun, described the second flyover under construction in Ado Ekiti metropolis as a product of misplaced priority, saying it was needless for the government to contemplate such under this harsh economy.
She added that the harsh situation could have been lesser on the citizens , but for the burden constituted by some godfathers, whom she accused of feeding fat on the state’s resources, thereby derailing governance and make the present and future look gloomy.
Funmi Ogun boasted that if given the PDP governorship ticket in 2026, that she will dislodge the All Progressives Congress she said was being anti-people and insensitive to the plight of the suffering citizens.
“It is heart- wrenching that this government receives the highest resources from the federal government in history but what we get in return is flooding, bad roads, poor standard of living, high unemployment index, killings, kidnapping and other social and economic threats.
“Under the last PDP government, Ekiti received between N2 billion and N2.5 billion monthly and we were able to deliver. We will return that winning streak when we return to government in 2026.
“Today, Ekiti received between N6.5 billion to N9 billion, but our roads are bad. Things are getting worse. Instead of good governance, what the governor was preoccupied with were building second flyover bridge in Ado Ekiti to fritter away our money. This is crass opportunism and needless venture.
“We also saw the drama of romanticism with some godfathers they are relying on to perpetuate them in government. All this will not work. Ekiti people are wiser now and are ready to take their destiny in their own hands in the next election.
“Nothing stops the government from investing in farming, keep our roads in good shape, employ technology to combat insecurity, embark on aggressive youth employment and empowerment and ensure payment of salary, instead of unwarranted flyover that is now causing pains on the people.
“The money that was being paid for compensation on buildings that will be demolished and on the project itself can put all our roads in the right shape and reduce the current economic hardship if properly channeled for development”.
On the 2026 governorship election, Ogun stressed that she is well mobilized and resolute to rescue the people of the state by changing the narratives from these trajectories of suffering and take Ekiti to the promised land.
“I am determined to ensure that our people feel good governance again. Good governance left Ekiti with the removal of the PDP from the helm of affairs. We are returning there not for the sake of ourselves, but for Ekiti people who are really desirous and yearning for good governance”.
She stated further than Ekiti can never become a one-party state, no matter how hard the APC tried to entrench such undemocratic culture in the polity, saying the PDP will continue to wax stronger ahead of the next electoral battle.
