The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina has said his administration would continue to build on rapid development solely predicated on community services with a view to giving back to host communities.

Besides, he would not only fast track development to Oye and Ikole which played host to the university but ensured peaceful coexistence between the university and the communities.

While he assured Oye of plans to establish a Teaching hospital for the UniversityCollege of Medicine, Prof Fasina said his administration would fast-track a #400million agric business to ikole as both plans were already on top gear.

The Vice-Chancellor said this while declaring open a medical outreach in Oye and Ikole as part of the FUOYE’S 7th convocation.

He said :”Innovation about medical outreach was rooted from the University roles which are into three stages; academic, research and community service. So, whatever we are doing today is about community service and we want to give back to the community.

The host communities must feel our impact as a university and that’s what we are actually doing here today and we are going to do more. This is just the health sector, we are also going into agriculture.

“We want rapid development and improvement and we want to establish a teaching hospital in Our community and an agric-business in Ikole. Our mandate is to revolutionise the entire communities through agriculture when we will produce what people will buy in large quantities.”

At Ikole, Prof fasina said “as a University we sat down and think about what to do for this communities to enable us give back to Ikole and communities. Ikole community has done a lot for us and we have deemed it fit to reciprocate the good things you have done. I can say that this community welcomed us with open arms. If you recall when I became the VC I said that I would revolutionise Ikole and immediately I came on board , I bought a tractor and other farm implements worth hundred of millions of naira. So, if we cannot feed the whole  of Nigeria or Ekiti State we should be able to feed Ikole community.

“That’s why we cleared five hectares of land to plant tomatoes and pepper massively to the extent that people can get them .

“The reason we are in Ikole today is to bring medical outreach to the people of Ikole.

“The reason for this medical outreach is that we want to compensate the good gesture Ikole has done for us. And I promise you that we shall continue to do it quarterly free of charge.”

Meanwhile, the Medical Director of FUOYE’s Health Centre, Dr. Musibau Olanrewaju Olawale, who led other medical doctors from the University lauded the community for their large turn-out.

He, however, said that the people would be examined  on urine, fasting blood sugar, hypertension e.t.c, saying that drugs would be provided free of charge to the participants in regardless of condition of their health.

The event was graced by top echelon of the University.
