Ooni HailsTinubu over SWDC, Lauds Adeola, Adetunmbi Appointments

In a statement by his media director, Moses Olafare, the Ooni described the initiative as a “historic turning point” for the South West’s development, praising the move as long overdue.

The monarch specifically commended the appointment of Dr. Charles Akinola as the Commission’s pioneer Managing Director/CEO, describing him as a technocrat with a stellar record in governance and international development.

“Dr. Akinola’s background as a former Chief of Staff in Osun and his experience in public-private partnerships and rural enterprise development make him a perfect fit,” the Ooni said.

He also lauded the choice of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi as Chairman of the Board, describing him as a seasoned development expert.

The Ooni urged the appointees to approach their new roles with integrity, focus, and a commitment to improving the region’s infrastructure and economy.

Recall that on May 8, President Tinubu formally requested Senate confirmation of 55 nominees for the South West, North Central, and South South Development Commissions. The SWDC had 18 nominees, including Akinola and Adetunmbi.

The commission is expected to play a strategic role in addressing regional socio-economic challenges, promoting inclusive growth, and delivering federal interventions tailored to the South West’s needs.
