Former Borno State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is almost certain — barring two exceptional circumstances.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Monday, Sheriff said Tinubu would secure a landslide victory unless elections are not conducted or the President personally decides not to run.
“I can tell you for free, the only things that will stop President Tinubu from winning the election in 2027 are only two factors: one, if there are no elections in Nigeria; two, if he decides not to run,” he said confidently.
Sheriff, a former National Chairman of the APC, praised Tinubu’s leadership, stating that his performance has earned him the people’s confidence and would make re-election an easy ride.
On national security, Sheriff also weighed in on the ongoing insurgency in the North, particularly the activities of Boko Haram. He said Nigeria cannot defeat terrorism in isolation and must deepen security and diplomatic relations with its neighbours.
“We have to build proper relationships with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger,” he said, noting that a strong regional alliance is necessary to end cross-border terrorism in the Lake Chad basin.
Sheriff also spoke about Vice President Kashim Shettima, revealing that he played a key role in launching Shettima’s political career.
“I brought Senator Kashim Shettima into politics. He was working in a bank before I introduced him into public service,” Sheriff recalled.
