Olusola Oladoja, a student of the University of Jos, has emerged as the new President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following an election held during the association’s national convention.
The convention, which began on Sunday with delegate arrivals, stakeholder meetings, and candidate screenings, concluded with voting that stretched into late Wednesday.
At a world press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Oladoja, alongside other newly elected executives, vowed to oppose arbitrary tuition hikes in tertiary institutions and to champion student welfare.
He praised the immediate past NANS leadership under Lucky Emonefe for its contributions to student advocacy and pledged to build on their achievements.
Oladoja also announced plans for a nationwide campus tour to engage students directly and address pressing issues in tertiary education.
Commending the convention planning committee for conducting a transparent and credible election, he called for unity among all contestants, urging them to see the outcome as a collective victory for Nigerian students.
Former NANS President Emonefe expressed confidence in the new leadership, describing them as credible representatives elected under close supervision by security agencies and student delegates nationwide.
