Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has shared his painful experience battling chronic ulcer for seven years.
In a recent interview, the respected actor revealed that the illness left him extremely weak, unable to eat solid food, and dependent on pap for survival during the worst periods.
Ogogo recalled that the health crisis began suddenly while on his way to a movie location, with a sharp pain in his chest that later radiated to his back. Despite the discomfort, he managed to reach the set where fellow actress, Remi Surutu, noticed his condition and suspected it might be ulcer-related.
“The pain started suddenly while I was driving to a film location. I felt a sharp pain in my chest going to my back. Within minutes, I became uncomfortable,” he said.
“I had someone with me in the car but he couldn’t drive. When we got to the location, I met Remi Surutu who asked what was wrong and suggested it might be ulcer. The next day, I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with chronic ulcer.”
Ogogo narrated that he vomited blood continuously for seven months and could only pray while sitting due to the weakness. He also said he had to move from place to place in search of treatment, trying both medical and alternative solutions.
“For those seven years, I couldn’t eat anything except pap. I went through a lot, but I thank God for the people who supported me during that time. I didn’t sell any of my properties despite not being able to attend filming locations regularly,” he added.
The actor also stressed that he never engaged in smoking or taking hard substances, and expressed deep appreciation to all who stood by him during the difficult period.
Ogogo remains one of the most respected figures in the Yoruba film industry, known for his discipline, longevity, and significant contributions to the growth of Nollywood.
