OFFENSIVE AGAINST TERRORISTS: Bello Tunji’s Second In Command Neutralised — Military

According to a statement by Defence Director Edward Buba on Wednesday, the military’s onslaught, which took place between January 20 and 21, 2025, also inflicted severe injuries on Turji’s close associates, including his younger brother, Dosso, and a trusted ally, Danbokolo.

The operation further neutralized several high-ranking commanders of Turji’s network, namely Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe. Over 24 terrorists fleeing from Turji’s camp around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas in Sokoto State, as well as Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State, were also neutralized.

Strategic Victory

One notable success was the elimination of Suleiman, a loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu. Suleiman, who was leading a reinforcement team to support Turji’s disorganized camp, was neutralized during an intense firefight around Fakai high ground.

“The death of Bello Turji’s second-in-command, close allies, and commanders deals a significant blow to the terrorist network in the North West, severely crippling their operational and combat capabilities,” the statement noted.

Terrorist Activities Disrupted

These terrorists were infamous for kidnappings and attacks across Zamfara and Sokoto States, particularly in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs. The military’s offensive disrupts their operations and reduces their ability to harm civilians in the region.

Ongoing Operations

Buba emphasized that the military remains resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism, stating: “The troops are not relenting until these terrorists are completely destroyed. Our operations aim to create an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens.”

The success of this operation demonstrates the Nigerian Military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in regions plagued by terrorist activities.
