NYSC Condemns Brutal Assault on Female Corps Member

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned the violent attack on one of its members, Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement issued, the NYSC described the incident as “ridiculous and unacceptable,” confirming that operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully entered a corps lodge in Oba on July 23, accusing the occupants of engaging in illegal activities.

The agency said its findings showed that the vigilante operatives demanded that all corps members in the lodge submit themselves for a search. Jennifer, who was visiting the lodge at the time, was then assaulted and humiliated.

The NYSC management said the matter has since been reported to the police, with investigations already underway.

“Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members nationwide. We will not condone any individual or group that undermines the safety of our members for any reason whatsoever,” the statement read.

It also appealed to host communities and members of the public to ensure the protection of corps members posted to their areas for national service.
