NSCDC Chief Superintendent Allegedly Pours Hot Water On Teenage Maid, Victim Hospitalised

The incident allegedly occurred at the officer’s residence in Walidah Estate, Keffi, Nasarawa State. The victim, identified as Mercy Hajara Mohammed, 15-year old, is from Kontagora in Niger State and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

Photos and videos circulating online allegedly show burn injuries on the teenager’s chest. Sources in the neighbourhood allege that Akor, who hails from Idah in Kogi State, poured hot water on the girl and subsequently locked her indoors to prevent her from seeking help.

The motive for the alleged assault was not immediately clear as of press time.

Residents also allege a pattern of abuse. Several neighbours who spoke on condition of anonymity said the officer has a history of beating and starving the teenager. They claimed the matter was previously reported to the police, but no action was taken.

“The child has been subjected to inhuman treatment for some time. We reported to the police before, but nothing came out of it,” one neighbour said.

There are also allegations that the officer is using her position in the NSCDC to frustrate investigation into the case.

Sources said the victim’s father, resident in Kontagora, is afraid to pursue the case due to the suspect’s rank and position in a security agency.

Civil society groups and human rights advocates have called on the NSCDC Commandant General, the Nasarawa State Police Command, and relevant authorities to conduct an immediate and transparent investigation.

They are also urging the Office of the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, the National Human Rights Commission, and legal advocacy groups to intervene to ensure justice for the victim.

The NSCDC is constitutionally mandated to protect lives and property, and any conduct to the contrary by its personnel is expected to be met with disciplinary action in line with the Corps’ code of conduct.
