The Ekiti State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Akin Adeyemi, has appealed to the general public to desist from the habit of preserving food items with chemicals because of the dangers inherent in the act.
The NOA boss made this statement while addressing the traders at Okesa and Awedele market in Ado Ekiti.
Mr. Adeyemi said, the programme was part of the mandate of the Agency to mobilize, sensitize and give timely as well as proper orientation to the general public on burning issues.
In his dialogue with the traders at the market places visited, Mr Adeyemi appealed to them to demonstrate honesty with the food measuring bowls in order not to short-change buyers,he emphasized that deliberate increase in prices of commodity is uncalled for, especially food items commonly found in our environment.
The NOA boss frowned at the habit of preserving food items and ripening of fruits with chemicals, Adeyemi explained the dangers associated with the intake of the chemicals which includes damage to the brain and vital organs of the body system .
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Agency, Ronke Afebioye-Samo, the NOA director also reminded them of the NIMET predictions of flooding in Ekiti, and advised them to desist from any act that can lead to flooding, he seized the same opportunity to ask them to resume the act of hand washing and cleanliness to avert the outbreak of cholera in the state.
Mr Akin Adeyemi encouraged the citizens to co operate and be patient with the President Bola Tinubu’s government and pledged the commitment of the Agency to always come through for the general public where necessary.
