The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that there has been no system collapse in the country this year, only cases of line tripping.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, TCN reaffirmed that the national grid has remained stable in 2025.
The company explained that on February 12, the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped, while the Benin-Egbin 330kV line was already on a scheduled outage for mechanical line tracing. This led to a cascaded outage affecting power supply in Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo.
However, TCN assured that other parts of the country remained unaffected, and full restoration of bulk power supply to the impacted areas had since been completed.
The company also emphasized that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) operates under regulations set by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and is governed by industry guidelines. It reiterated that only the National Control Centre System Operator or its designated backup, the National Supplementary Control Centre (SNCC), has the exclusive authority to provide public information on grid operations.
TCN urged the public and media professionals to disregard any misleading reports about the national grid that do not originate from its Public Affairs Department.
