NIPOST, NPC Collaborate To Develop Digital Postcode System

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), has partnered with the National Population Commission (NPC) to develop a standard and digital postcode system that will aid the economic, political, social and physical development of Nigeria.

As part of this effort, the Commission is training functionaries for the ground-truthing of Postcode Area (PCA) Delineation Model at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)’s Office in Abuja.

The extended postcode framework is a collaboration between NPC and NIPOST, which assigns a unique alphanumeric code to every dwelling entity in the country, taking into consideration its unique use and geographical location.

The Commission has derived a huge volume of geospatial resources during the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise for the 2023 Population and Housing Census, which includes a digital map of all buildings and post offices in Nigeria.

The training session will train Supervisors, Enumerators, and GIS officers who will be on the field for 7 days to validate the Model in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This is a micro-test, after which the whole country will be delineated into Postcode Areas. The training workshop was declared open by the Digital Chairman of NPC, Hon. Nasir Isa kwarra; Postmaster General of NIPOST, Hon. Sunday Adeyemi Adepoju; Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Halilu.
