Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called on the United Nations to investigate the international funding and training of Boko Haram terrorists.
He highlighted the need to trace and track the financial flows and support that sustain the group, which has persisted for over 15 years.
Musa expressed concerns over how Boko Haram has managed to continue its operations despite significant efforts to degrade the group, citing the use of drones for surveillance as a new tactic by the terrorists.
He suggested the involvement of international conspiracy in providing funding, training, and equipment to the insurgents and emphasized that Nigeria faces difficulties in obtaining necessary military equipment due to international constraints.
Meanwhile, security sector reform expert Chukwuma Ume supported the CDS’s call for a UN investigation and urged the Nigerian government to show a strong commitment to governance and human rights compliance to encourage international support.
In a separate development, the Nigerian military confirmed that six soldiers were killed in an attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on January 4, 2025, in Borno State. Despite this, 34 terrorists were killed, and significant weapons and ammunition were recovered in the operation.
