The Federal Government has commenced the second phase of its contactless biometric passport application system across Nigerian missions in the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.
This was made known in a statement posted on the official ‘X’ handle of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and signed by the Service’s spokesperson, ACI AS Akinlabi.
According to the NIS, the initiative—under the leadership of Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap—is part of a phased roll-out aimed at improving passport application processes for Nigerians in the diaspora.
The mobile application, known as NIS Mobile, is currently available on the Google Play Store, with an iOS version expected soon. The app enables Nigerians abroad to apply for passport renewals without visiting a physical passport office for biometric data capture.
With this development, the contactless passport system is now available in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and parts of Asia.
However, the NIS clarified that the system is yet to be launched in Australia and Nigeria, noting that a future date will be announced for both countries.
“The Service remains committed to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world,” the statement added.
