NDLEA Apprehend Popular Nollywood Filmmaker For Illicit Drug Shipments

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested 61-year-old Aishat Elediye, a prominent socialite also known as “Iya Ruka,” during a raid on her Okota mansion. Her arrest followed the interception of a white Izuzu truck loaded with 44 jumbo sacks of imported cannabis, weighing 1,540 kilograms. The truck, driven by her employee, 41-year-old Abideen Adio, was seized before operatives stormed her residence.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that Elediye, who also goes by “Alhaja Ajoke” in social circles, had been under surveillance for years. She allegedly led a drug cartel operating from the Mushin area of Lagos while maintaining the appearance of a legitimate businesswoman importing fabrics and shoes from China. Elediye also held the title of Iyalaje in a prestigious Lagos social club.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives apprehended Emeka Mbadiwe, a motivational speaker and US-trained Nollywood filmmaker, at a Lekki hotel. His arrest followed the capture of his associate, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, at a warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja. James was found retrieving 33 parcels of Loud, a potent cannabis strain weighing 17.30 kilograms, smuggled into Nigeria from the United States on December 24, 2024, aboard a Delta Airlines flight.

The NDLEA also dismantled a drug ring producing drug-laced cupcakes in Ilorin, Kwara State. Operatives arrested Khadijat Abdulraheem, 24, and Ayomide Morakinyo, 20, based on intelligence about their activities. A search of their apartment yielded 42 drug-laced cupcakes, which they were selling to students in the area.

In another development, ex-convict Sodade Eniola was rearrested for passport racketeering after serving time for drug trafficking. Eniola, who paid a fine of ₦750,000 in June 2024 to avoid a four-year prison term, was discovered smuggling passports concealed in shoe soles and food items.

The NDLEA also intercepted 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup during a joint operation with Customs officers in Port Harcourt on December 31, 2024. Similarly, operatives recovered over 149,090 pills of tramadol and exol-5 during a raid in Kano’s Dala Local Government Area.

These operations highlight the NDLEA’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes nationwide.
